In the Beginning...

EXCITING, SCARY, EXCITING, SCARY, EXCITING, SCARY! This is the roller coaster most entrepreneurs ride when they are opening their first business. I know that's how I feel, and we're still in the middle of construction! But my vision of what Sweet Dee's will be and the community it will serve are what continue to get me through the scary parts and keep me excited.
My vision for Sweet Dee's was borne out of my youth. As a kid I LOVED to bake. The very first show-and-tell demonstration I did in middle school was "How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookies." Demonstrating to the class how to measure everything properly, "...flour is not packed into the measuring cup, but brown sugar is... you must mix the dry ingredients and the wet ingredients in separate bowls, and then mix them together..." I had a blast. Of course, not only did I get an A on my presentation but the kids LOVED me for bringing in cookies. I was hooked!
Every year, I looked forward to when my mother would take my sister and me to have our portraits taken. It wasn't the portrait studio I looked forward to, but the awesome ice cream store we would go to afterwards. It was a very '70s setup. It had big, round, mustardy yellow and red plastic chairs and tables. It was almost futuristic... or at least what futuristic looked like in the '70s. The best part about this ice cream shop was the toppings bar. Not only did they have a great selection of delicious treats, but you got to put the toppings on yourself. As much or as little as you wanted. What fun! Who would've thought that more than thirty years later, it would be all the craze in the yogurt shops around the U.S.?

Thus, the concept behind Sweet Dee's Bakeshop was born. A place where you, the customer, can choose what you want, not just from the bakery display case, but from a myriad of cake, frosting and topping choices. Design your own dessert! Share it with your friends. Share it with us at Sweet Dee's, and if we love it, your creation will make our menu board. It's a place where friends and family come together to enjoy fun, delicious, fresh-baked desserts and create memories they will share for years to come.
As far as choosing a location for Sweet Dee's, years before my family and I moved to the Tucker area we were researching neighborhoods online to see where we might want to live. We needed a larger house if we were going to have another child. I came across the Main Street Tucker Alliance revitalization webpage. It laid out a plan to update the main street in Tucker by narrowing the streets, widening the sidewalks, planting trees, adding park benches... ultimately making the street more pedestrian-friendly. I was so excited by the prospect, even though I had never even been to or seen the area. It was actually the reason for the revitalization that excited me so much: creating a community. So we are thrilled to be joining the wonderful group of businesses on Main Street in Tucker. It's a fantatic mix of merchants that continues to grow.
My passions for baking and community all rolled into one... Sweet Dee's Bakeshop.
